What it’s good for
Sports and PE
Pick fair sides for football, cricket or a classroom game in seconds. Re-shuffle if a split looks lopsided and settle it without anyone choosing their friends.
Classrooms and workshops
Create discussion groups, project teams or breakout rooms. Choose “people per team” when the group size is fixed, or “number of teams” when you have a set number of tables.
Office and hackathons
Mix colleagues across departments for icebreakers, quiz nights and hackathons. Copy the teams straight into chat or download them as a CSV.
About the Random Team Generator
The Random Team Generator splits a list of names into teams whose sizes differ by at most one person. You can choose either the number of teams or the number of people per team. Names are shuffled with a secure Fisher–Yates shuffle in your browser, then dealt out in turn, so every possible grouping is equally likely. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed. To give each person a part inside their team, use the Random Role Generator, or hand out work with the Random Task Generator.
Next, give each person a part with the Random Role Generator, hand out work with the Random Task Generator, or pair people with items using the Random Assigner.
